What Happened: January 2017

Hi folks!

Whew! What a quick January eh?

It was a good reading month for me. I managed to read 2 books given my busy schedule! Yey! And I am currently reading Life Without Limits by Nick Vujicic.

I also bought one book: Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

And I was able to publish blog posts...

Book Reviews

Yep, I can say that I had a pretty productive start of the year. 😊

For the month of February, I am again setting two books for me to read. I don't know yet what books I will be reading but I think I'm up for some fantasy or dystopian read. We'll see. 😁

How was your January folks? I hope you had a good month.

Have a nice day!

Stacking the Shelves #23: January 2017 New Release

Hi folks!

I have mentioned in one of my post (click here) that one of my anticipated books in YA this 2017 is Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth. Thus, when it hit the shelves of our local bookstore last January 17, I immediately bought a copy! Look how pretty!

From the synopsis, I'm getting a star-crossed lovers vibe with a lot of action. I know they're not really unique tropes but I'm excited to know how the author will weave the elements together. I also haven't read much set in a galaxy or in another planet so I'm excited about the world-building.

I hope the book will not disappoint! I'm not sure when I will read this though. Haha! Hopefully, soon!

That's all folks!
Have a nice day!

Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles #2) by Marissa Meyer: Book Review

Title: Scarlet
Author: Marissa Meyer
Series: The Lunar Chronicles #2
Publication Details: February 4th 2014 by Square Fish
Genre: Fantasy, fairy tales, YA

Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She’s trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she’ll be the Commonwealth’s most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit’s grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn’t know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother’s whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.

A refreshing, modern re-telling of Red Riding Hood.

I dived into the book without knowing what it is about so I had no expectation whatsoever. But I really had a good reading experience with Scarlet. 😊

Bookmark Collection 2017: Photo Diary

Hi folks!

How's your 2017 so far? I hope you're all doing good. :)

Christmas 2016 brought me a few bookmarks. Haha! So for this post, I thought I'd show you an updated bookmark "collection". I already posted one back in 2015 (click here). I think I've lost a few but I did get new ones. :)

I'm still missing my Gayle Forman bookmark. :( I hope it's in one of my books. I'm also missing here two Fully Booked bookmarks. I don't know where they are.

My Most Anticipated Books of 2017: Young Adult

Hi folks!

New year = exciting new releases! Thus, I want to share with you my most anticipated YA releases for this year!

Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth (Carve the Mark #1)

I've read the Divergent trilogy and liked it (except for the ending). Although I feel like the story will have predictable bits, I'm still looking forward to know how the usual plot elements will be weaved together.

King's Cage by Victoria Aveyard (Red Queen #3)
Release date: February 7, 2017

I have featured this on one of my Waiting on Wednesday posts. And I can't wait to read more of Mare's fate!!!

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh (Flame in the Mist #1)
Release date: May 16, 2017

The plot synopsis you guys! Of the mentioned books, this is the one I am most excited about!

Firefight by Brandon Sanderson: Book Review

Title: Firefight
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Series: The Reckoners #2
Publication Details: January 6th 2015 by Delacorte Press

They told David it was impossible-that even the Reckoners had never killed a High Epic. Yet, Steelheart-invincible, immortal, unconquerable-is dead. And he died by David's hand.

Eliminating Steelheart was supposed to make life more simple. Instead, it only made David realize he has questions. Big ones. And there's no one in Newcago who can give him the answers he needs.

Babylon Restored, the old borough of Manhattan, has possibilities, though. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David's willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David's heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived. Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic—Firefight. And he's willing to go on a quest darker, and more dangerous even, than the fight against Steelheart to find her, and to get his answers.

Plot
Since Steelheart (book 1) ended with a few loose threads, I was excited to read Firefight and have my questions answered.

Books I Will Have to Read in 2017

Hi folks!

In 2016, I was somehow able to lower my TBR. But of course, I also bought books. Haha! So in an attempt to tackle again my TBR, I picked 5 books that I will have to finally read in 2017.

These 5 books will be part of the 30-book challenge I set for myself this year. Here are the titles:

Hopes for 2017: Blogging and Reading Goals

Aah! 2017! Welcome!

As I've said in my previous post, I was not able to achieve my reading and blogging goals in 2016. I was really busy and my laptop also gave up on me. But that doesn't mean I should not set my goals for 2017. Let's start the year with some goal-setting! Shall we? :)

2017 Blogging and Reading Goals:

Reading challenge: 30 books! That would be 2-3 books per month. Haha!
♥  Regular post on the blog.
♥  Post more often on my Instagram account. I always forget that I have a bookstagram account. Haha!
♥  Visit more independent book shops in the Philippines.

-o-

I am excited for the new year! I do pray that this year will be a really good one!
What are your reading/blogging goals?

Have a nice day!
